From flounder to redfish, the Okuma Nomad Xpress is an affordable travel rod that beats other three-piece units hands down at its price range. As is the case with any travel rod, it packs down easily so that you can store it into overhead luggage on planes or in vehicle storage and backpacks.
Features are as expected for an Okuma product: Just great. The blank construction on the Nomad Xpress is done using graphite, making for a durable rod under pressure. The clever European design of the spigot ferrule means it feels more like a one-piece rod than a collapsible three piece, and the aluminium oxide guide inserts and EVA foam and cork fore and rear grips speak of quality and practicality.
Travel rods are very convenient little things, and this is a good medium-range one from Okuma as far as price is concerned. You get a reasonable range of features and it feels just fine in use. We like the fact that the spigot ferrule connection makes it feel so sturdy for a travel rod, and we had nothing but good results in testing.
