Built primarily for saltwater fishing, these Daiwa reels are flexible in that they can handle freshwater activity too. We're pleased to see that Daiwa has spared no expense in the Coastal TWS reel, outfitting it with seven corrosion-resistant ball bearings (stainless steel) to help keep salt out of the internals.
This is a reel that boasts some serious high strength gearing, with an Ultimate Tournament drag system that has a quite impressive 15.4lbs of power when used at its max setting. The swept handle is ergonomic and has well-made EVA grips, with a longer handle that boosts up the cranking power and ease while being quite comfortable to handle and move around. That ease is made better by the T-Wing levelwind system, which helps lower friction when you're casting your line.
Our opinion: Coming somewhat in the middle in terms of cost for the overall Daiwa range, this is a solid choice for inshore fishing. If you're a fan of chasing fluke, porgies and other smaller fish, you'll be well served with this reel. It's also capable for bass fishing in freshwater.
Overall, this is a fetching blue-coloured baitcasting reel at a reasonable price from a brand the team here at Nihon Fishing have come to love over the years. You can't go wrong with Daiwa, and this is another great instalment to their product range that we're proud to offer.
