It's here. The offshore saltwater master. Spinning Reels don't come stronger or better made than the Shimano Stella, if you ask us.
What makes this Shimano spinning reel special, then? How is it worth the price?
There's more than a few good reasons. Shimano began their research and design for the Stella spinning reel with a single goal in mind: Create a heavy duty saltwater fishing reel that provides an unprecedented amount of power for operation in difficult waters and against the strongest species of fish.
As you might expect from a brand like Shimano, they went and did it. Core technologies that contribute to the fearsome strength and cranking power of the Stella sw are its Power aluminium body, X-Rigid rotor, bail and handle and its X-shield and X-protect systems, the latter drastically improve its water resistance. This makes the Shimano Stella nearly bulletproof. It has top quality drag performance even after years of abuse. The Stella has shielded bearings and rustproofing mean it shrugs off salt water and even when fully submerged performs amazingly at max drag.
There's precious little loss of power when flexing using this reel, and its cranking power is otherworldly. The Shimano Stella is extremely heat resistant and all but immune to water damage and easily handles the incredible speed and strength of larger fish such as bluefin tuna and giant trevally.
Our opinion: Wow. That's all that came to our minds when we tested the Shimano Stella out. We were practically fighting over who got to try this reel out the most, and we all were left with a thoroughly impressed view of the product and Shimano's ability to fixate on a design goal and realise it.
This reel practically begs for the strongest fish out there, and it handles them with ease. 14 bearings and a rigid aluminium handle all mean awesome power under load, and the Coil Wave spring means it'll always deliver smooth drag consistency at any setting and any point in use.
This is a Shimano reel for the experts, there's no doubt about that. It's an engineering marvel and is the kind of thing you want on your side when you're wrestling giants out of the water. Great job, Shimano - you've done it again.
